In the new normal, borders will not return to the way they were overnight
In an article written by Peter Macfarlane from Investment Migration Insider (IMI)- available HERE
- the auhtor reflects on how the current crisis of the pandemic will affect Visa-Free Travel in the future.
While the Covid-19 situation is recent enough in Europe, we´re already being impacted both economic and socially in ways that up until a few months ago we wouldn´t even suspect of. And though the problem is still halfway through its length, we can´t help but think on how different our lives will be once it ends.
"Whilst travel might be the last thing on your mind right now, you should consider that, in the new normal, borders will not return to the way they were overnight, if at all. Just as the response to the virus has differed widely between countries, so it will continue. Some countries might decide they rather like leaving entry restrictions as they are."
Though no one knows for sure how this´ll end or what it´ll happen next, one can learn a lot from the current experience. Did we feel confortable at home? Did we feel safe? Were we where we wanted to be? As Peter Macfarlane went on to say, people will spend more thought on organizing not only their lives, but also their emergency plans, which will inevitably affect the immigration business all over the world.
"... in the future will see less focus on visa-free travel (now that this has basically been proven not to work in times of crisis) and more on where you can live with a high quality of life, with a decent health system, surrounded by people whose culture and outlook on life you feel comfortable with (...) Portugal is not a perfect place but, in my view, it ticks a lot of boxes for a lot of people as a home base."
